Yep! The filing deadline is April 18, 2016 instead of April 15th. Why would the IRS give us 3 EXTRA days to get our procrastinating selves together and get our taxes filed? Is it because they CARE about us? Hmmmmm…… not likely. Is it so we have more time on the 15th to celebrate National Glazed Spiral Ham Day? Possibly it’s because the 15th is National Rubber Eraser Day. Seems fitting since the task of preparing a tax return sometimes calls for a lot of number crunching and an eraser is sometimes handy. But seriously, it’s due to Emancipation Day, April 16th, being a legal holiday in the District of Columbia. Being that the 16th is on a Saturday, the holiday is observed on Friday the 15th which then makes the filing deadline the next business day…..the 18th. Aren’t you glad you know all this now? You are welcome!
P.S. If you live in Massachusetts or Maine . . . guess what? You have until April 19th due to Patriots’ Day.
