Due to a security breach, the IRS Data Retrieval Tool utilized in completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form was temporarily shut down. The U.S. Department of Education has announced new encryption protections have been added to help secure taxpayers’ information. The retrieval tool is now available for Income-Driven Repayment Plan Applications.
The IRS Data Retrieval Tool will return on October 1, 2017 on the on-line 2018-2019 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. The tool allows applicants who have already filed their federal income tax returns to prefill the answers to some questions on the form by transferring data from their federal income tax returns. This can save the family some time in completing the FAFSA
